Description:

This polygon was drawn to represent the Quapaw Strip which is the portion of the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma's land that lies within the state of Kansas, as detailed by a Treaty of May 13, 1833. It's southern boundary is the Oklahoma/Kansas state line; the northern boundary extends 0.5 miles from there into Kansas; the western boundary is the Neosho River; and the eastern boundary is the Missouri state line. Or, as stated in the treaty, "the Quapaw Strip consists of land approximateiy one-half mile in width and contains approximately twelve (12) sections of land within Cherokee County, Kansas, along the present-day Oklahoma-Kansas state line and west of the Missouri-Kansas state line. The Parties further agree that the Quapaw Strip lies within the Quapaw Tribe's historic reservation in Oklahoma and Kansas, as established pursuant to the Treaty of May 13, 1833." The Quapaw Strip polygon was drawn in the NAD83 datum using state boundary data provided by Geographic Data Technology Inc (GDT). "GDT has been a pioneer in the development of cartographic data for business use and provides complete, current and comprehensive geographic data. GDT offers street, postal, census and other geographic databases."
