This dataset is an adaptation of the CDP Regions dataset, developed in 2015 by the Indigenous Affairs Group within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and further refined in 2017 and 2024. It was designed to assist with the delivery of the Community Development Program (CDP) and now the new Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES). The Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES) started on 1 November 2025, directly replacing the Community Development Program (CDP). The service operates in 'RAES regions' to support job seekers with the skills, mentoring and training they need to take up job opportunities, including those created through the Remote Jobs and Economic Development (RJED) program. RAES supports job seekers in remote Australia to build work ready skills, address employment barriers and contribute to their communities through a range of flexible activities. It is designed around the unique social and labour market conditions found in remote Australia and is an essential part of the Australian Government’s agenda for increasing employment and breaking the cycle of welfare dependency in remote Australia. RAES has 60 regions across remote Australia, to deliver the program and assist in administering and managing RAES Providers. Non-government employment Providers are funded to provide employment, skills and activity servicing for people in remote Australia. However, certain large towns such as Alice Springs, Esperance, Mt Isa, Broken Hill etc are part of the separate Workforce Australia program (Department of Employment and Workplace Relations) and RAES providers are not allowed under contract to service people who live in Workforce Australia Employment Regions (and vice versa). So location is very important to the contracts, funding and delivery of RAES.In 2024, this dataset included changes to reflect the Yulumbu Community as being serviced by the Region14 provider, and a correction to the spatial data to reflect that the Ngilipitji community is being serviced by a Region 30 provider, as per ADW Mapping (authoritative system information through DEWR and NIAA).NOTE: The RAES program boundaries are not clearly separated like Electorate boundaries, they have overlaps, donuts, holes, missing parts etc. Some areas will be disconnected (spatially) from its neighbouring area because of various cultural, contractual and network reasons.
