This layer is generally used for WSA identification and management, planning, and case-by-case actions where NEPA documentations is prepared. en This theme identifies the following components of BLM's wilderness program: designated wilderness areas; wilderness study areas (WSAs); BLM's recommended wilderness areas (not yet attributed in in this dataset); wilderness inventory areas; and Congressionally identified areas of consideration. Information was mapped at 1:24,000 scale. This theme identifies wilderness components that must be considered in resource management plans (RMPS) and in the implementation of resource projects. This dataset was prepared for general display and resource management planning purposes. Procedures_Used: In the 1980's field inventories were conducted by BLM wilderness inventory teams to identify WSAs. This information was originally mapped at 1:62,500 and at a later point, the information was transferred to 1:24,000 scale maps and overlays. The 24k information was digitized by the Utah BLM Mapping Sciences staff in the 1980s. This data was reviewed and corrected in the 1990's by Utah BLM State Office wilderness staff and BLM field office resource specialists. The data was digitized at the BLM Utah State Office from 1:24,000 USGS quadrangle paper maps using MOSS ADS.
